Open Lines on the Dividing Line

Did about twenty minutes on Jan Hus and the background of the Reformation, and then went to the phones for the first time in a long time.  A ton of questions on a wide, wide range of topics, such as the INC, Roman Catholicism, textual criticism, etc., finishing with a nearly 25 minute conversation with “Joe” who is flirting with Romanism.

2 John 11 Abused by Imbalanced Calvinists, the Death of LDS President Monson, Further Response to Ijaz Ahmad

Started off looking carefully at the text of 2 John 7-11 once again, this time as it has been abused by ostensibly Reformed folks.  Then we looked at some of the shenanigans of the “only Calvinists are saved” brigade on line.  Moved eventually to the death of LDS President Monson and the continued need to pray for God to pour out repentance upon the LDS people.  Finally returned to Ijaz Ahmad’s video on Scriptural “corruption” for the last 25 minutes or so.

Setting the Record Straight: Dr. Michael Brown Our Special Guest

Didn’t bother starting off the year quietly as over the holidays a number of internet-based ministries were throwing out the hate against me for my relationship with Dr. Michael Brown.  In the process a number of articles were posted that displayed the same kind of “let’s not worry about thinking clearly, let’s surely not even ponder being fair, but let’s throw everything including the kitchen sink in here in hopes something will stick” kind of yellow journalism that I have been subjected to for years.  Since specific allegations against Dr. Brown’s Christology were included, I contacted him and asked him to come on the air, which he graciously agreed to do.  We ended up talking about a lot of stuff, including the allegation that he is a “NAR super apostle,” defends “grave sucking,” and all the rest.  During the program, Pulpit and Pen, C3ChurchWatch, EBCMinistries, CrossRoads Radio, and Richard Haas (a P&P contributor) all worked together to do a tweet-storm with the hash-tag “ElephantRoom3.”  The fact that it is dishonest to even connect the events with Jakes and this discussion with Michael Brown does not bother these folks—the Inquisitors who turned the cranks on the racks in the dungeons of the Spanish Inquisition believed themselves to be doing the work of God.  When you live in the narrow, small world of the ultra-orthodox, where everyone must look like you and act like you and speak like you, you have no perspective from which to be able to see your utter lack of balance. In any case, an open and honest conversation that, for those with ears to hear, should be helpful, and challenging.

Beyond Mega Length Edition of the DL: Textual Critical Topics, Islamic Topics, Response to Theodore Zachariades

Went two hours and eleven minutes today (sorry!), but had a lot to cover. Too many topics to list, but basically a lot on the new Tyndale House Greek New Testament, textual critical topics, Muslim apologetics issues, the Qur’an, and then responses to Dr. Theodore Zachariades on the topic of the decree of God and the will of man, i.e., the topic of compatibilism.  Only program this week as I am headed for St. Charles for my annual pilgrimage!

Thanksgiving as a Christian Trait, Free Will, the Decree of God, and Theodore Zachariades

As it is two days before Thanksgiving we started off with about 20 minutes of thought, based mainly on Ephesians 5, on that vital topic, and then moved on to a discussion of Chapter 9 of the London Baptist Confession of Faith, “On Free Will,” in light of the recent debate and an article from Dr. Zachariades.  We hope everyone has a blessed time with their families this week, if possible, and that you will have time to truly consider the goodness of God toward you and yours.
